Fun Fun Fun Fest (FFF Fest) is back for the seventh year this week with a packed schedule of events beginning Thursday evening until Sunday night at Auditorium Shores at Town Lake Metropolitan Park. The festivities kick off Thursday with Superchunk at The Mohawk followed by Christian Bland and the Revelators at the ND at 501 Studios. All Nites after shows are free with a weekend pass wristband. A single day wristband gets fans into same evening shows as well as the Thursday events. Notable acts appearing at the festival include, Run DMC, X, Refused, De La Soul and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
Last year was the first time FFF Fest was held at Auditorium Shores after the event outgrew its original home at Waterloo Park. The mild summer weather and higher than average rainfall this year means the new venue is not likely to suffer the same dusty conditions as last year. Preview images (see slideshow) of the park show plenty of grass on the ground prior to Friday’s start at 11 a.m.

While it may be ambitious to imagine I will catch all the acts listed above, I feel if you aim high, you are bound to reach an admirable goal, which in my case means seeing as much good live music as possible. Thankfully, Transmission Entertainment has included a number of Austin acts in the lineup. If you have not seen Ume, The Black Angels, Residual Kid or Not in the Face I recommend putting them on your list. San Antonio’s Girl in a Coma and Mexicans with Guns are not to be missed as well.
Tickets are still available at the FFF Fest online box office. A nice feature of purchasing here is there are no extra fees involved. The price quoted is what your credit card will be billed.
